We finally managed to get wifi on our cellphone with the help of two very friendly Brazilians who spoke perfect English. Otherwise, it would have been impossible. We were initially advised by Claro to go to a pharmacy to get a prepaid chip, which we did. But to activate the chip, we needed a CPF number which is only provided to Brazilians. We were then advised to visit a police station to get this CPF number. Fortunately, we met the friendly Brazilians before we got to the police station. Even so, it took about an hour with their help. Keep trying.
